Statement from Indiana Farm Bureau about House passage of SB 186:
Indiana Farm Bureau thanks the Indiana House for its 67-30 vote in favor of SB 186. The vote reaffirms the importance of a strong farm sector to the overall health of rural communities and our state’s economy.
“We appreciate that the House understood the true context of SB 186, and are thankful for their thoughtful deliberation and favorable vote,” said IFB President Don Villwock.
IFB is especially thankful for the leadership shown by the House sponsor, Rep. Don Lehe, R-Brookston, and the Senate author, Sen. Carlin Yoder, R-Middlebury. Despite a misleading media campaign by the bill’s opponents, these legislators stood firm in support of Indiana agriculture. IFB looks forward to seeing the governor sign this important legislation.
The language in SB 186 about the use of generally accepted farming practices and new technologies emphasizes the fact that farmers of all types work to continuously improve agricultural practices that feed Hoosier families while protecting our environment.
