Grain Bin Extraction Tube Donated

The Boone County Farm Bureau donated a Liberty Rescue System Grain Bin Extraction Tube to Center Township Fire Department. Bob Guernsey, a Farm Bureau board member, said “Center township was chosen because it is a fully manned department in the center of the county which should mean a quicker response in the event of an emergency.” Bill Kroener, from the department, accepted the donation and shared with those in attendance that several of the firefighters have already been trained on using the device. While most farming accidents have seen a decline over the last decade, studies done by Purdue University, have shown that grain bin entrapments cases have actually seen an increase. The Grain Bin Extraction tube purchased by the Boone County Farm Bureau cost $3900 and training costs $65 per first responder. “We hope to partner with local Agri-businesses to purchase additional tubes that can be placed around the county.” Said Guernsey, who steer-headed the campaign.
