State convention deadlines loom
The calendar is just two months shy of the IFB state convention, and final details have rolled out for the annual meeting.
Many old favorites are back, such as the trade show and leadership updates, while a few changes are on the schedule, one of the biggest being the free time on Friday night, Dec. 7, rather than having a program.
“Members told us that while they do appreciate the amount of material they take home from convention, the schedule had become too tight,” said Kim Vail, director of organizational development for IFB. “We decided to leave Friday evening free to catch up with old friends, network with new ones or explore the Indianapolis area.”
The trade show will span both days of the convention this year, running from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. Two stages will feature sessions on electrical safety, grain safety, ATV safety, flower arranging and a review of Matt and Carla Schenk’s ACE Ambassador trip to South Carolina. Make-and-take gourd painting sessions, one on Friday and one on Saturday, will be limited to the first 12 people to attend. Blood pressure checks and glucose testing will be available on Friday.
The trade show also will include booths from commodity groups and retail options and the silent auction. Members with items to contribute to the silent auction should contact their county president. Proceeds will benefit the Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation.
Leadership updates are scheduled on Friday at 8:30 a.m. for PR coordinators, secretaries and treasurers, membership chairs and public policy leaders. These leaders will receive invitations from the home office with more details.
The opening session on Friday features IFB President Don Villwock’s annual address and recognition for the Hovde Award, Rural Teacher of the Year and Farm Family of the Year winners.
Young Farmer awards and the Discussion Meet finals run Friday from 3:45 to 5 p.m.
A session that explains the end of the commodity advisory committees and what the new process will be for policy development and implementation will take place on Saturday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The closing session on Saturday includes membership awards and the new county recognition program and Impact Awards. The delegate session follows the closing session and covers any business that has arisen since the meeting in August. An election for president will be held.
