How to bring the next generation into the farm operation will be one of the main focuses of the 2013 Indiana Farm Bureau Spring Conference.

“We'll offer specific, how-to information,” said IFB 2nd Vice President Isabella Chism. “We want the word about Spring Conference out early and often so we can get multiple generations to attend.”

The event will be March 8 and 9 in Indianapolis, and the theme is “Feed. Lead. Succeed.” The keynote speaker will be Iowa farmer and family business consultant Jolene Brown, who has written books and given speeches on succession planning and growing family businesses.

Also presenting will be Dr. Angela Gloy, farm business planning specialist in Purdue University’s Department of Agricultural Economics. Her emphasis is farm family succession planning, including retirement and estate planning issues that accompany the transfer process.

“She will lead a hands-on workshop related to the steps involved in bringing in the next generation,” Chism said.

Spring Conference will still include a variety of breakout sessions. Child care and activities will be available for all ages.

“So start talking to your mom and dad, your son and daughter and mark your calendar for March 8 and 9, 2013,” Chism added.
