Kathleen M. Dutro is the publications managing editor and media relations specialist at Indiana Farm Bureau.
In her role as media relations specialist, she coordinates media contacts, writes news releases, and performs other duties as needed to help reporters cover agriculture and IFB. She also contributes to Farm Bureau’s media training and other media relations efforts.
As publications managing editor, she oversees the day-to-day operations of The IFBulletin, a newsletter that comes out 20 times per year, and The Hoosier Farmer, a quarterly magazine. Her duties include writing articles, shooting photographs, and editing the publications.
She also occasionally acts as IFB’s staff photographer.
A native of California, Dutro holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Jose State University. Before coming to Farm Bureau in November 1995, she was for nine years the editor of Indiana AgriNews, a statewide agricultural weekly, where she wrote extensively on environmental issues, federal legislation and the Indiana General Assembly.
She has also worked on community newspapers as editor, reporter and freelancer, and for a magazine publishing firm in Indianapolis. Dutro has been a member of the Society of Professional Journalists since college and remains active in a local “professional” chapter of the society. She has won several awards for feature writing from the American Farm Bureau Federation during her time at Indiana Farm Bureau. The most recent award went to the editorial staff of The IFBulletin, which won AFBF’s award for “best leader newsletter.”
She and her husband, Russell Adams, live in Pendleton. She is a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in McCordsville.
